1. PREPARATION. If you fail to prepare, then you might as well prepare to fail. Marine Boot Camp is one of the most physically and mentally challenging experiences of your life. Proper preparation will set you above your peers when you arrive at the MCRD. Effective preparation for Recruit Training should include both physical and mental aspects.
A. Physical Preparation
Running
Calisthenics
Hiking
Circuit training
B. Mental Preparation
Study Marine Corps History
Marine & Navy Rank Structure
Positive mental attitude
2. AGGRESSIVENESS. From the second you arrive at MCRD you will be confronted with a United States Marine Corps Drill Instructor in your face yelling instructions at you to “GET OFF MY BUS!!!” From that moment, you will be expected to respond instantly to all orders by sounding off loudly and aggressively either “Yes, Sir”; “No, Sir”; or “Aye, aye, Sir”. Aggressiveness in your responses and in your actions will show your Drill Instructors that you are serious about Recruit Training and that you have what it takes to be a United States Marine.
3. MOTIVATION. Positive energy and motivation will take you a long way in Marine Boot Camp, and even further into your career as a Marine. You will be faced with many challenges, obstacles, and less-than ideal situations during your time at boot camp. Your ability to maintain motivation and push through the obstacles will enable you to overcome adversity and succeed at every training event. Your motivation will also serve to lift the morale of the recruit to your left and right, thereby strengthening the platoon as a whole.
4. TEAMWORK. The Marine Corps is built on the foundation of team work, not individuality. Your ability to work as a team with the recruit to your left and right will strengthen your platoon as a whole. Those who choose to operate as individuals and detract from the overall effectiveness of the team will likely be weeded out quickly and dropped from training. As an individual you can only accomplish so much. As a team, you will be able to accomplish much more.
