USMC Rappel Tower
Marine recruits will face their fear of heights during recruit training while rappeling down a 60-foot wall and off a simulated helicopter skid. Rappel training is designed to prepare recruits for missions where they may be required to fast-rope from a helicopter, scale cliff sides and other rough terrain, or gain entry to multi-level buildings in an urban environment. Recruits are taught proper knots and rigging to ensure the ropes and harnesses are secure as they plummit towards the deck at high rates of speed in order to land safely and carry on with their mission.
